The equipment needed for starting a small business printing posters depends on the size of the posters and the picture quality needed.
For small posters of tabloid size ( 11 X 19 inches) or a little larger a standard Epson printer may be adequate. The paper should be selected accordingly.
Plotter printers from companies like HP and Lexmark are available are suitable for printing larger posters. These are more expensive than standard Laserjet printers. The consumables for these plotters also are expensive and the resolution of the images may not be very good as these are suited for taking print outs of drawings. High resolution plotters can cost up to 5 times the cost of standard plotters.
If only a few posters are to be made, it is more economical to get them printed at the local reprographics/offset litho shop or print shop.
